Join us for two free days of hands-on creative workshops for 16–19 year olds, produced in partnership with Talent Accelerator as part of the Coastal Catalyst project and Discover Creative Careers Month.
Led by local artists and cultural organisations, the event invites young people to explore the many routes into creative and artistic careers in Bexhill.
Workshops will be hosted by De La Warr Pavilion & Flatland Learning Teams, Common Clay, Lucy Evetts, Alexi Marshall, Do Your Ideas, SOU.NDKIT, and Love Art By The Sea/ Living Communities; offering an inspiring introduction to the people, skills, and ideas shaping the region’s creative future.
De La Warr Pavilion Learning Teams
Working together, the De La Warr Pavilion and Flatland Projects Learning Teams connect young people with contemporary art and creative careers across Bexhill. Their workshops will introduce participants to how exhibitions are made, the people behind the scenes, and the wide range of creative roles that make art happen.
Common Clay - Introduction to Ceramics
Common Clay is a dynamic ceramic studio based in Bexhill, known for its playful and inclusive approach to making. Their session will offer hands-on experience with clay, exploring how craft can become a pathway into creative industry careers — from design and production to teaching and community engagement.
Lucy Evetts - Canvas Stretching
Lucy Evetts is a Kent-based artist whose work explores everyday imagery, repetition, and the quiet tensions found in familiar spaces. A graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, she recently presented her solo exhibition The Voice Inside My Head at Flatland Projects.
In this practical workshop, Lucy will guide participants through the process of stretching and preparing a canvas — sharing professional techniques and insights into how artists build the foundations of their work from surface to image.
Alexi Marshall - Print Making
Alexi Marshall is a Hastings-based artist and Slade School of Art graduate whose bold linocuts and drawings explore themes of womanhood, folklore and liminal spaces. In her workshop, Alexi will lead participants through the fundamentals of print-making—showing how to design, carve and pull a print, and share how her practice uses hand, body and process to create large-scale imagery.
Do Your Ideas - Introduction to Carpentry
Do Your Ideas is a Bexhill-based community carpentry workshop that runs classes in DIY and fabrication skills, supports local makers, and provides workspace for creative projects.In this session, participants will be introduced to basic carpentry tools and techniques, learn how to shape and join timber, and explore how building skills can unlock creative opportunities and career pathways in making, fabrication or arts-based production
SOU.NDKIT - Introduction to Podcasting and Audio Editing
Sou.dkit is an audio program run by local sound artist Kitty McCarron. In this workshop participants will get the opportunity to create their own podcast, learn how to use a Digital Audio Workstation as well as recording editing and manipulating sounds.
Living Communities / Love Art By The Sea
Living Communties is run by practicing artist and educator Gemma LLoyd. She trained at art school for eight years and has worked in theatre, film and the creative arts since.During her workshops participants will explore badge making, patch working and making crafts with upcycled materials.
