NIGHT SHIFT
10. 07. 26, 18:00 - 22:00
Ever wondered what happens after dark at the Beeching Road Industrial Estate?
Flatland Projects presents Night Shift, a one off evening of dance music, screenings and conversation, held between our exhibitions and echoing off the walls of our warehouse.
Begin the night with music from local DJ and Common Clay member Emiko, and dance to the sounds of her techno, dubstep and break beats, while making your way through our gallery to experience our current exhibitions Manifestations for an Eternal Spring by Tawfik Naas and Doorway Guardians by Annie Whiles in a different light.
Alongside the music and exhibitions, Flatland Projects is delighted to present two film works by Austrian born, Paris - based artist Phillip Timischl, shown together in Bexhill for Night Shift.
Both films take the viewer on holiday with the artist, blurring the boundaries between travelogue, personal diary and contemporary art.
Reality is the Worst Case Scenario (2012) is an early video work that follows Timischl through a series of holiday encounters and observations. Moving between humour, self counscious performance and everyday experience, the film anticipates the rise of the travel vlog while offering a playful reflection on image - making, tourism and the ways we narrate our lives through media.
Corsica (2013) recounts a jounrey through the French island landscape with friends and a lover, combining personal anecdote with reflections on intimacy, communication and cultural difference. Originally presented as part of the Serpentine Gallery’s 89plus Marathon within a taxi circulating Hyde Park, the work invites viewers into a shared experience of travel, memory and storytelling, unfolding through the artist’s distinctive blend of sincerity, wit and self- awareness.
Night Shift is a free and all inclusive event supported by The Arts Council England and Hastings based community radio station Freqs Radio; who will be recording and sharing Emikos set for listeners to enjoy beyond the night.
